Steps to Land a Federal Job in Biden’s America

Even before taking up the charge, Biden had made it clear that he had very different priorities than Donald Trump with regard to the federal workforce. Whether you already have a federal job, or you are seeking to find a federal job in Biden’s administration, it’s important to be aware of certain changes that we expect in the coming months.

Union Executive Orders Will Be Revoked

So far, Biden administration hasn’t given any plans regarding three executive orders that were previously signed by President Donald Trump pertaining to collective federal bargaining and rights of federal employees. However, one thing is clear that Biden has always been a proponent of federal bargaining protections.

Biden once clearly stated that the federal government is supposed to serve as a role model for other employers on how to treat workers fairly and give them their rights. During his presidency, Trump had gutted the federal employees’collective bargaining abilities and deprived them of their right to union representation. Trump’s policies had madefiring federal employees relatively very easy and federal government could fire anyone without even presenting a ‘just cause,’.

If you’re one of those people who had given up on the idea of working in federal government due to Trump’s policies, it’s time for you to get your hopes high again. Things are about to change and Biden has promised to restore the rights of federal employees to collectively bargain and form unions. He has also promised to restore their right to official time. During an interview, he said he will “aggressively” fight against any attempts to undermine the rights of federal employees.

Diversity Training

Trump had recently made attempts to remove diversity training and Biden had been one of the most vocal supporters of diversity training in the federal workforce. While diversity training addresses the problem of white privilege, Trump argued that it was inherently divisive and leading to more problems.

While Trump was making efforts to stop all the diversity training programs, Biden was making efforts to resist such changes. With Biden in power, we can expect improvements in diversity training programs and greater accountability of people in authority in all federal agencies. This means that if you are an immigrant, Black, Hispanic, or you belong to any other minority in United States, you can still get equal opportunity to work in Federal force in Biden’s America.

Transforming the Public View

Trump’s administration constantly made efforts to force a large numberof federal employees to quit. His policies resulted in a loss of public trust in the federal government. However, Biden’s team is also promised to restore public trust and confidence in the government. Since his election campaign, Biden and his representatives have been emphasizing on the importance of personal transparency. He has also talked about limiting the conflict of interest in a government officials’ personal and governmental interests. In one of his speeches, he said that the new government must show it to the public that they are public servants sincerely serving all Americans, and not working in their own individual interests.

Greater Support for Science

During Trump’s era, there was hardly any scientific progress and he was constantly sidelining the researchers. However, Biden has made several promises to support scientists as well as scientific measures. He plans to work closely with the private sector scientists. If you’re pursuing a career in any science or engineering related field, you might have high chances of finding a good job in the federal government.

Better Healthcare System

We all saw how Trump’s administration failed to respond to the pandemic. Biden’s plans aren’t limited to technological advancements, he’s also planning to dedicate more resources to promote better and more affordable healthcare services. We might see more job openings in the federal health care system.

Environment and Climate Change

During Trump’s era, the White House placed restrictions on scientists at EPA and other departments from circulating information on climate change. Any information pertaining to climate change on the government websites was also removed. However, we can expect things to get better during Biden’s era.

Biden is one of those few people who are serious about dealing with the threat of climate change. He has made it clear that he’s going to fund the agencies working to improve the climate such as Environmental Protection Agency.

In one of his interviews, Biden said that all Americans have the right to have clean air, and safer environment, and that he believes in a sustainable growth of economy that doesn’t affect the climate. He further revealed his plans to hire more public servants and patriots who are willing to dedicate their lives to make this world a better place to live.

Other Benefits

Federal employees are also expecting consistent and regular pay increases in Biden’s America. He has clearly stated that he will make efforts to not only support existing feds but also attract new employees to apply for federal jobs.

Although, even during Trump’s administration, feds were given fairly consistent increases in their salaries. However, the overall working conditions of feds, and other restrictions forced many to quit jobs and discouraged people from applying.   It should also be noted that the pay raise wasn’t a result of Trump’s policies and rather contradicted Trump’s orders to freeze pay for the previous year.

Biden has also clarified that he’s in strong opposition to any efforts that seek tolimit retirement benefits of federal workers. He said that the federal government make efforts to ensure that the retired federal workers receive high quality benefits. He condemned the anti-worker budget adjustments that claimed to deal with the burden of health care by reducing employment and retirement benefits.
